The second project of the year Our driving question was, "Cuales son los retos y las oportunidades que presenta una sociedad multicultural a la cultura e identidad de un individuo?" The Essential Skills tested (along with the 21st Century Skill of Communication) were the following: EKS #2.2: Hablar - Yo puedo dar una presentacion academica completamente en espanol. Throughout this unit, we spent class time examining and analyzing documents, articles, and videos that were related to our topic of multiculturalism. After each class period, we were to write a journal entry highlighting what we did in class, what we learned, and our personal opinion about the topic discussed. The front of this "journal" consisted of an image that represents me. I chose an illustration of one of comedian Louis C. K.'s acts. Another thing we did was make a video asking Latinos around the community for their opinion on a topic of our choice. My group and I chose to present the idea of immigration and the overall happiness of immigrants, specifically ones from Spanish-speaking countries and South America in general. Next, my group and I chose an advertisement that we thought did not do a good job of targeting the Latino population of Los Angeles. We then remade this advertisement to cater to Latinos through putting the influence of the product on family - a commercial about the Olympics turned into one about how your family could come together through watching videos on the TV advertised. Finally, I wrote an essay weighing the benefits and challenges of living in a multicultural society. This essay was written in-class and needed to fit the requirements of being a five-paragraph persuasive essay completely in Spanish. I received a score of 4 on every deliverable for this project. With the exception of the in-class essay in which I had a few spelling and grammar errors, I met the requirements for every aspect of a 4-level project. ReflectionThis project was very difficult for me, something that I attribute to both my level of familiarity with Spanish and the level of analysis I had to employ to complete the deliverables. The amount of work, however, is directly related to how proud I feel of accomplishing this project, and therefore I am very proud of my performance. When I compare my work and attitude in Spanish 1 to my work and attitude in Spanish 104, I am amazed at how much I've grown, both as a student and as a Spanish-speaker. This is without mentioning the collaboration of my group, which I feel was very good. We worked well together and were able to complete assignments that we were proud to show off.
Project: Success! The first project of the year Our driving question was, "Como puedo ser aun orgulloso de mi mismo?" The Essential Skills tested (along with the 21st Century Skill of Connection) were the following: EKS #1.1: Compresion Oral - Yo puedo escoger una respuesta apropriada a una variedad de situaciones. EKS #2.1: Hablar - Yo puedo dar una presentacion academica completamente en espanol. EKS #3.1: Comprension de Lectura - Yo puedo usar informacion que he leido en espanol para contestar preguntas, formar opiniones y resolver problemas.
